Animal trainer killed by bears while washing their pen

Bears can be quite vicious and should be treated with appropriate caution. Unfortunately, a man in Montana was recently the victim of a fatal animal attack involving two Syrian brown bears. The 24-year-old man worked as a trainer at the animal facility that housed the bears. Despite having worked for the company for approximately five years, he was mauled to death while cleaning the bears' enclosure. Some claim he was unconscious at the time of the attack because he did not show any defensive wounds.

Even though the bears were used primarily for photography, commercials and motion pictures, they still retained their violent tendencies. Even a well-trained animal can cause serious injury if not carefully monitored.

PA fire chief killed by drunk driver

The legal system offers many options for victims and families of victims harmed by drunk drivers.

A drunk driver recently struck and killed a Pennsylvania fire chief directing traffic at an accident scene. The pedestrian car accident occurred when the drunk driver attempted to go around the fire chief's parked SUV and struck the fire chief in the process as he was directing traffic. The fire chief was pronounced dead at the scene. The drunk driver has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.

Teenaged firefighter in North Charleroi struck by SUV

There are certain careers that often seem to make the list when children are asked the fateful question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Doctors & lawyers frequently make the list. Professional ball players or rock stars are also popular choices. Fireman, or perhaps now firefighter, has been a dream job for many children for many decades. For one young Pennsylvania teen, becoming a firefighter became both a dream come true and a nightmare.

A 14 year -old resident of North Charleroi was involved in a car accident when an SUV struck him while he was responding to a fire emergency. The teen had been following in the footsteps of his firefighting father and had responded to many similar situations in the past. Unfortunately, while racing up his familiar route on foot, his was hit by the passenger side of the SUV and tossed 30 feet.

Two-car accident on State Route 220 claims the life of one

Pennsylvania residents are likely aware of the risks associated with driving in dangerous weather conditions. However, it's important to remember that even in clear conditions, highway accidents can be fatal. A recent car accident on State Route 220 is an example of the importance of safe driving practices and staying alert on the highways in all conditions.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a deadly crash that occurred at the Briar Patch Road intersection of State Route 220. The crash involved two vehicles in a head-on collision. One driver was heading south when the vehicle crossed over the yellow lines into the oncoming traffic. The second vehicle, headed north, was struck abruptly in the crash and turned over onto its roof prior to striking a utility pole on the side of the highway.

Philadelphia "clowns around" with texting drivers

The driver's license is coveted rite of passage for most American teenagers. It represents not only a sign of maturity, but also a path to freedom. A driver's license means being free of rides from mom and free from the restrictions of a pedestrian life. In short, it grants the freedom of the road. This right is restricted and granted to only those "responsible" enough to handle it, mostly due to the fear that a distracted teen might cause a car accident or worse.

Some studies show, however, that in at least one category the teen drivers are more responsible than their adult counterparts. A recent survey conducted by AT&T stated that a higher percentage of adults are guilty of texting while driving than teenagers. Over 50% of all adult drivers claimed to have texted while driving, despite nearly all acknowledging that it was a dangerous practice.

Pennsylvania doctor resigns amid allegations of mistreatment

There is a reason why we seek professional help when it comes to our health. Doctors and hospitals are specially trained to care for patients in a safe and effective manner. Unfortunately, as in any industry, not all health care professionals always make the best treatment options and patients may be hurt as a result. Patients who are injured because of doctor negligence or doctor error can file a medical malpractice lawsuit against the liable party. Such a suit gives the patient a chance to recover money to pay for additional medical expenses or to cover pain and suffering incurred.

Philadelphia residents should be aware of an investigation at a local hospital. Patients of the hospital are being notified that they possibly received an unnecessary procedure. The letter of notice explains that patients potentially received heart stents that weren't needed. These stents are generally used to help weak arteries. One doctor, in particular, performed all of the stent procedures.

New Pennsylvania law causes decline in texting while driving

Communication technology has made leaps & bounds in the past decade, supplying us with phones capable of checking email, sending text messages and taking photos. And the also let us make phone calls, too. The combination of text messaging and driving, however, can easily lead to a resulting car accident. Recent numbers reveal how effective (or ineffective) Pennsylvania's recent law banning texting while driving.

An American Automobile Association report stated that Philadelphia ranked number one in texting while driving citations during the year since the law was implemented with 243 issued. Montgomery County and Allegheny County followed in the number two and three positions, respectively. Crashes caused by a distracted driver were reportedly down slightly, which one official viewed as an encouraging start.

Families work to reduce sentence of man charged with car accident death

During the winter months, in places that familiar with heavy snowfall and ice, the weather can be one of the most dangerous elements to driving. Unfortunately, other irresponsible drivers can also be the cause of a car accident on today's roads. Unfortunately, alcohol was also a factor in a crash that took the life of one man and will alter the life course of another.

In Hagerstown, MD, about three hours west of Philadelphia, a 45-year-old man was recently convicted of manslaughter and homicide while driving under the influence of alcohol. Though the judge originally sentenced the man to four years in jail, the man's family and the family of the victim worked together to reduce the sentence.

15-year-old in critical care from hit-and-run in Philadelphia

Philadelphia residents may have learned of the recent tragic sequence of events that struck one Philadelphia family particularly hard. A 15 year old girl was hit by a car in a hit-and-run car accident and is currently in critical condition as her spleen had to be removed following the accident. She is currently at Aria Torresdale Hospital.

Tragically, her 10-year-old sister was also struck by a car in another unrelated hit-and-run accident only two days earlier and broke her leg as a result of this accident. Fortunately, the driver responsible for this hit-and-run did turn himself in.

Pennsylvania dog attacks results in serious injury to another dog

Many Philadelphia residents love their dogs and will sometimes go to great lengths to justify or excuse their actions. While these embarrassing animal behaviors often consist only of crazy barking while walking down the street, digging up a neighbor's flowers, or chasing a cat up a tree, sometimes the behaviors can be more violent and aggressive. It is unfortunately becoming increasingly common to read stories about a dog attack that caused serious injury to people or other animals.

A small cockapoo in Salisbury Township, Pennsylvania, is still struggling to recover from a violent dog attack. It recently underwent a second surgery to repair its throat, which was torn in the attack. The dog also suffered puncture wounds and a broken jaw. The attack occurred while the cockapoo was walking down the street with its owner's father and was seen by two pit bulls. One pit bull lunged after the smaller dog and continued to attack it despite being beaten, punched, kicked, and hit with a shovel, among other things, in an effort to get it to release the cockapoo. The pit bull did not seem interested in attacking people, only the smaller dog, but was ultimately shot by police when it aggressively approached officers after the injured dog and its owner were rushed to the animal hospital.
