North Carolina Drivers with Pennsylvania Traffic Tickets

North Carolina Drivers with a Pennsylvania Traffic Ticket

If you are a North Carolina Driver Who Has Just Received a Traffic Violation in Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania will transfer the information of your traffic offence to North Carolina. North Carolina and Pennsylvania both uphold the Driver License Compact (DLC). This contract permits for information to be exchanged between your home state and the state in which the traffic violation occurred.

North Carolina will not add points on your driving record when receiving a traffic violation out of state. This being said, if you commit a traffic violation or violations out-of-state that under North Carolina law would lead to a suspension of your driver's license, then you, as a North Carolina driver, may have your driving rights in your home state suspended. Receiving 12 points or more on your driving record in North Carolina will lead to an automatic suspension of your driving rights in North Carolina.

To illustrate this, say you are driving in Pennsylvania and you have just received a Speeding Ticket. Under North Carolina law, you as a North Carolina driver will not have any addition of points on your driving record. However, say on the same day you receive two additional moving violations while driving in Pennsylvania such as, running a red light and failure to yield to the right of way. Under North Carolina law, the accumulation of all of these traffic violations would lead to a suspension on your driving record in NC, therefore, you, as a NC driver, will have their driving privileges taken away in the state of North Carolina.

It is important to note that, as a North Carolina driver, your insurance company deals with traffic violations under their own authority. In this respect, your insurance carrier has the ability to raise your insurance rates based on what they feel fits the severity of the traffic violation.
